UPDATE (2:42 p.m. 06/20:)

The Pima County Sheriff's Department have identified the victims of the plane crash as 41-year-old Miguel Ornelas, who was a student pilot on the flight, and 74-year-old Robert Guerrero, the flight instructor.

According to the news release issued by PCSD, the department was informed of a plane crash in Green Valley at just after 2:30 p.m. The US Air Force contacted PCSD about a plane that had left Ryan Airfield and not returned.

PCSD's Search and Rescue Traffic Unit traveled to the plane's last coordinates. A PCSD helicopter found the plane, and a sergeant with the Search and Rescue Unit was able to confirm the two occupants were dead, the news release said.

PCSD is now assisting the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board with their investigation.

UPDATE (8:18 a.m. 06/20:)

According to the FAA Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing website, two people died in yesterday's plane crash southwest of Tucson.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this time, the site said, but the plane, a Cessna A150, was listed as "destroyed."

Update: 8:30 p.m.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department confirmed to KGUN 9 the aircraft departed from Ryan Airfield.

A plane crashed in a remote area southwest of Tucson Thursday, according to Pima County Sheriff's Department.

PCSD says the crash occurred in a remote location, and because of the terrain and distance, investigators have not yet arrived as of 7 p.m.

The department has not yet provided details on the nature of the crash, the type of plane nor any injuries or casualties.
